I really want to blog all about yesterday - such an adventure! But we ended last night with flying to Uganda at around midnight. Got here late last night and the power went out (very normal here!). We are now just about to get in a car and drive about 5 hours north in Uganda to Gulu. Haven't been there since 2012 - eager to get back!!
I will blog tonight... for now here is a photo of me saying goodbye to some friends in Kibera... will miss being there. I love the people there so much - definitely family to me!
Yesterday, I ended the day feeling better wiped. We decided to take this morning "off" and very last minute (ie - last night around 8pm) decided to take today to do a morning safari. We had looked at going up into the Great Rift Valley or somewhere further away - but since our travel plans have changed and our time in Kenya is cut shorter (more on that tomorrow) we decided to do the local safari. Nairobi actually has a safari right in the city limits. There is chaos and noise everywhere... and then we drive into the park and enter another world. I was very skeptical that it would be any good and was worried Marcie would be disappointed....
Today is Marcie's Birthday - yay!! So thankful she decided to spend it here celebrating in Africa. For her gift - I let her shower first at the end of the day when we are so gritty, smelly and gross... :-) And she did her annual Facebook post to say "thanks for the birthday greetings" - once she asked me how to post a status as she had forgotten. Oh man.... we're so different. Today we tackled some of the "business" side of things in the morning. Tomorrow is the day I start my journey back to Africa. I am so eager to get back and reconnect with our friends in person! It has been a year since we have seen each other and so much can change in that time! So many people have been asking about the trip - I thought I would let you know our plans! This past week has been spent busy gathering the generous donations and it has taken us a day and a half to sort through and pack them.
